Iris DF(Slope) Sarah Ryan Design, SN: 1226
This is an Iris Slope Shouldered DF with a hand painted Sarah Ryan Design for the top. Sarah paints a limited number of guitars for us with a new design created on an annual basis. The top is Sitka spruce with beautifully quartered Black Locust for the back and sides. The neck is Mahogany with Indian Rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge. Underneath the beautiful painwork, the top is finished in a Matte Black finish with Tortoise Binding for the top and back, Black-White purfling for the top and a single ring White Rosette. Sarah Ryan’s Design includes a Black Bear, Oak Leaves and Acorns, Alder Pine Cones and Trillium.
The standard Iris logo adorns the headstock along with three-on-a-plate Waverly Tuners with cream buttons. The fingerboard has dot markers at the fifth, seventh, ninth, twelfth and fifteenth frets with a total of nineteen frets. The neck joins the body at the fourteenth fret and there are nineteen frets in total. The nut width is 1 ¾,” the spacing at the bridge is 2.2,” the scale length is 25,” and the fingerboard radius is 16.”
The Sitka Top and Black Locust body create a wide open sound with well defined bass notes, each note rings with well balanced clarity. Not only does it look special, but it sounds great and it is a joy to play.
