S/N 920
This is a 1934 Gibson L-00. It has an Adirondack Spruce top with a Mahogany neck, back and sides, a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and an Indian Rosewood bridge. The scale length is 24 ¾” with a 1 ¾” nut width and 2 ⅜” spacing at the nut. The neck is a deep “V,” with a depth of 1” at the first fret and 1 1/16” at the ninth fret. There are nineteen frets with dot markers at the third, fifth, seventh, ninth, twelfth and fifteenth frets.
The top has a deep sunburst finish, a firestripe pickguard, a single layer of cream binding and a three ply cream-black-cream rosette. The top is delicately x-braced and lightly scalloped. The bridge plate has been replaced with a thicker maple bridge plate with a larger footprint than the original specification. There are no other repairs or alterations visible from the inside, though there is a two inch sealed grain crack at the apex of the lower bout bass side rim. The finish is worn through in spots on the back, near the neck heel at the base of the lower bout and near the treble side waist. There is an area of rub through next to the waist on the bass side rim and there are spots of playwear through the finish on the spine of the neck and on either side of the thirteenth fret just below the fingerboard.
The bridge is an Indian rosewood replacement with a footprint only slightly larger than the original. The fingerboard has been re-fretted recently with wire somewhat larger than the original specification. As a result, it plays beautifully. The tuners are original and the headstock is worn around the edges but the original screen printed Gibson logo remains strong.
Overall, this is a vibey guitar with carefully completed repair work. It sounds great with a deep and woody voice.
This L-00 comes with a cardboard case that shows extensive wear and seam splits at the lower bout.
