This is a Batson Guitar Co. Batson Walnut guitar, made by Cory Batson of Chicago Illinois, in 2025. It is a hollow body acoustic guitar with a Torrefied Red Spruce top, solid Curly Claro Walnut back and sides, Mahogany neck and Ebony fingerboard, bridge and tailpiece. The design, with an over-size soundhole at the upper bout of the treble side rim, is designed both for feedback resistance in performance and recording situations, also serving as a personal monitor, focusing both the tone and projection on the player of the instrument. Even so, for player and listener alike, the Batson Walnut has a charming voice with lots of bass authority and clear rhythmic mids and airy treble notes.
It has a 25.5” scale length, a 1.75” bone nut and 2.25” spacing at the bone saddle. The design incorporates elements of archtop guitar and flat top construction in unique and innovative ways. A traditional scalloped X-brace top can be seen through the soundhole. Above, the bridge is affixed to the top, with the strings passing through in a manner similar to a classical guitar. Instead of being tied off, the strings pass through to the tailpiece. The neck is mounted in the archtop style, with the fingerboard extension somewhat elevated above the soundboard.
The ebony headplate is bound in curly maple with the Batson name and logo inlaid in mother of pearl. An ebony truss rod cover and Gotoh tuners with an aged brass finish and a 21:1 gear ratio complete the headstock. The ebony fingerboard is bound in Curly Maple with mother of pearl side dots at the third, fifth, seventh, ninth, twelfth, fifteenth, seventeenth and nineteenth frets with twenty one frets in total. The top features an armrest bevel in Curly Maple, made in a contiguous piece with the Curly Maple binding. The purfling is five ply alternating Curly Maple and Walnut. The back is single bound in Curly Maple. The body depth is 4.5,” the body length is 20,” The upper bout is 11” and the lower is 15”.
It arrives in a TKL Tolex Hardshell case.
